My Module Layout for Component X is Messed Up. Help!

So someone asked me another common question the other day.

“A section of my website is component X” but when I login and go to that page I can’t control the modules that are displayed.”

Actually you can do so in a very simple manner. Just follow the steps in my previous post “I want my module on this page!” but create target the component’s url in your hidden menu item.

e.g. a large section of your website is based on, say, Community Builder and you automatically redirect people to that location once they login. Typically Joomla will only display modules that you have selected to appear for ALL menu items.

Say you want the “Online Members” module to appear on the right hand side of all of your CB pages but you don’t want it displayed anywhere else.

  1. Just add a menu link to index.php?option=com_profiler to your dummy menu.
  2. Then go into the module manager.
  3. Click on the “Online Users” module.
  4. Select the newly created menu item and any other pages you want this module displayed on.
  5. Click save.
  6. Go to the frontend and log in.
  7. The module will appear in the appropriate location on your CB page
