Solving Issues Migrating Mosets Tree to Joomla 2.5

I rarely write about upgrading an extension to work with Joomla 2.5 but Mosets Tree is a core feature for quite a few of our organisation type websites. Migration is pretty painless but then you may come across some problems. Here are 2 that we come across all the time, without fail.

  1. The administrator can no longer Edit / Add a listing
  2. Non-ascii characters in titles and filenames get corrupt

Both are easily fixed

Note that this assumes that you have two Joomla installations, the original 1.5 and the new 2.5 that you have migrated your website to.

The first issue is a failure in the migration script to copy all of the correct data into the __mt_fieldtypes table, in this case it leaves out the function declaration for the “corerating” field. To fix enter the following code into the ft_class field for the record corerating:

Save the record (backup the table first by the way!). Now the backend listing editing/addition should work.

For the second problem – all non-ascii text is replaced by question marks or is truncated, see a sample below. Just copy over the relevant data from your previous database, e.g. mt_links, mt_cfvalues_att, mt_cfvalues, mt_cfvalues, etc. Just copy over the relevant data from your previous database, e.g. mt_links, mt_cfvalues_att, mt_cfvalues, mt_cfvalues, etc.
