Joomla 2.5.1 Released

Joomla 2.5 has had an update in the form of Joomla 2.5.1, addressing two medium priority security issues relating to information disclosure and 30 tracker issues.

It’s a recommended security fix so update by:

  • uploading a security patch via FTP or
  • using Akeeba Admin Tools or
  • go into the Joomla extension manager and use Joomla’s core updater to get to the latest version.

As a side note the 1.7 stream has been similarly updated to 1.7.5 fixing 3 medium priority information disclosure issues. Similar steps required to update.

Make sure you update your Joomla 2.5 installation as soon as possible.

  1. I have used Admin Tools for some time. The product has great security/protection features so I will be keeping using it but I have been curious about the value of its update features now that Joomla has built in update functionality, Can you comment on that from your experience? Is there any reason to use the update features in Admin Tools now that there are updating features built into Joomla?

    1. Hi Justin, I used Admin Tools for most updates until recently but found out recently that the last general release did not have the ability to go to 2.5.1 so I used the core update instead. I still install it though as some of the other features are useful, e.g. the chmodding and htaccess editor + the firewall features in the pro version. I’m sure Nicholas will release an updated version soon though and then I will go back to AdminTools as I do prefer using this for core updates – seems to be a bit faster and shows more debug information.
